Biography
Stuart D. Hurst, M.D., joined the Division of Trauma and Acute Care as an assistant professor in 2022.
Before coming to UAB, Dr. Hurst served as the Medical Director of the Acute Care Surgery Clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital and was an assistant professor of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Emory University School of Medicine.
He went to Emory both for medical school and his residency in general surgery. He also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the MRC Centre for Transplantation at King’s College in London.
Dr. Hurst was an administrative fellow in Acute Care Surgery and then an administrative fellow in Surgical Critical Care at Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital.
His research interests include clinical outcomes in trauma, trauma systems, the management of the injured patient, surgical education, penetrating cardiac injury, and emergency general surgery.
