The UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine is proud to offer full-spectrum family medicine residency training to serve as the foundation on which they will build their careers and impact areas with the greatest primary care need. Through didactic learning, hands-on clinical experiences, and mentorship, the next generation of family medicine physicians develop the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care. Our programs emphasize the importance of continuity of care, community engagement, and evidence-based practice.
The Cahaba-UAB Family Medicine Residency program, a 20-20-20 program, offers four campuses across four cities. Centreville hosts the Rural campus, the Frontier campus — located in Marion and Camden — serves the Alabama Black Belt, while the Urban and Highlands campuses are both based in Birmingham. This program aims to develop physicians who care for rural underserved, urban underserved, and other vulnerable populations, while also developing future leaders and scholars in family and community medicine. To achieve these goals, we are committed to innovation and excellence in clinical and educational design.
