Welcome to the UAB School of Public Health — Alabama's only accredited school of public health and one of the most dynamic public health programs in the Southeast. Founded in 1978, we have spent nearly five decades preparing the next generation of public health leaders, awarding more than 7,600 undergraduate and graduate degrees since our founding. Today, our community includes over 1,100 students and 90 full-time faculty across five departments, reflecting both the breadth of our discipline and the depth of our commitment to excellence. Our undergraduate program is among the fastest-growing at UAB, and we are consistently recognized as one of the best educational values in public health in the Southeast.

At UAB SOPH, exceptional education and impactful research go hand in hand. Ranked 14th among schools of public health by U.S. News & World Report, our faculty are engaged in rigorous, externally funded research addressing the most pressing health challenges of our time in the areas of — cardiometabolic disease, infectious disease, cancer and health disparities. Our faculty are tackling modern public health problems locally, nationally and internationally through clinical and observational research, environmental health, behavioral science, data science, and emergency preparedness. Our NIH-funded research enterprise has placed us among the top schools of public health in the nation, and we continue to attract significant federal investment in the work that matters most to Alabama and beyond. Whether you are a prospective student, a community partner, or a fellow researcher, we invite you to explore what makes UAB SOPH a place where knowledge meets purpose.
