IRAP | Office of Research

The UAB Integrated Research Administration Portal (IRAP) is the institution’s electronic research administration system (eRA) developed and licensed by InfoEd Global, LLC. IRAP first went live with the Conflict of Interest (COI) module in 2012 and now has eight fully integrated modules:

IRAP provides the UAB research community with integration and transparency of research projects through a self-configurable interface called EnAble. IRAP provides UAB researchers a system which integrates the management of grant proposals, research agreements, regulatory protocols, disclosures, training/certifications and licenses. The system accomplishes these tasks with a series of configurable workflows, e-forms, alerts, linked records and a robust library of reports (Office of Research e-Reports).

IRAP does not manage the financial post-award research administration processes (Oracle), animal facilities management functions (Bioware) or Intellectual Property submissions (Sophia).

- Clearing your cache on a daily basis is recommended to enhance the overall performance of IRAP. Please see these instructions for clearing your browser cache in Chrome.
- For best IRAP system performance, when off campus, please utilize the UAB VPN.
- For best IRAP system performance, please have no more than three open IRAP windows at once. The more windows open, the slower the system.
- When searching for a record, using the Locate Records option and the record number is the most efficient method.
- When selecting Master Record, all users will be in View Mode. If you have Edit privileges, you will return to Edit Mode when accessing a different area of the record.
- To edit an existing record, you must be...
  
  the PI,
  
  a delegate of the PI or of someone named among the personnel on the record,
  
  named among project personnel (this is applicable after the initial submission has been processed), or
  
  granted access to all records at the org level.
- To leave a record, clicking ‘Done’ rather than the ‘X’ prevents the record from staying assigned to you and will allow others access to the record.
- IRAP Training is available via weekly Help Sessions (via Zoom). Register at uab.edu/campusLMS.
Personnel, Contacts/Award Manager, & Delegates
- Often when personnel changes occur (e.g., reassignments, position changes, retirement, etc.), the personnel remain as delegates, contacts or Department Administrators with org-wide access.
  
  This creates a situation where personnel retain access to records and, as a result, inclusion on correspondences that are no longer applicable to their role.
  
  We encourage all investigators and department administration to evaluate those who are in these roles and remove/replace them as necessary.
- To assist with this task, the Personnel with Departmental Access Report is available in the Office of Research E-reports directory to all users.
  
  The report provides a list of all personnel with departmental access at Department Admin I, II, III, and Departmental Head role based on the input parameters.
  
  If you do not select a specific value for a field, please select ALL to run the report.
  
  To locate the report, use the global Search option on the left navigation list and search for the term ‘departmental’.
  
  Once located, clicking the heart icon on the lower right corner of the report tile will keep the report available in your Favorites.
