Biography

Dr. Kenneth Unger has been practicing Podiatric Medicine and Surgery since 2001. He was a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, until his recent appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama Birmingham. He is both a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

His training includes a B.Sc. in Biochemistry at the University of British Columbia, following which he earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at W. M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago (Manga Cum Laude). He participated in the Swanson Independent Scholar Program while at Scholl, performing and publishing medical research related to arthritis of the foot. He completed Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency training at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, in 2001.

He subsequently began practice in Calgary, AB, where he has been a member of the Section of Podiatric Surgery at the University of Calgary Department of Surgery since then. His areas of interest and expertise are reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle, sports medicine, wound care, and limb preservation in patients with diabetes. As a founding member of the Zivot Limb Preservation Clinic, he has a significant background in conservative and surgical management of foot-related Diabetes complications. He has lectured locally, nationally, and internationally on the topics of wound care, foot-related complications of Diabetes, and pedal pathology.

He lives with his wife, Michelle, and dog, Chewie. When not working, he can usually be found on the water with a fly fishing rod in hand.
