The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Radiology is offering a one-year fellowship in Cardiopulmonary Imaging.
UAB Hospital is an 1,157-bed facility, a Level 1 trauma center, a transplant center, and a major oncology referral center in the state of Alabama. The Department of Radiology has state of the art equipment along with latest addition of PET-MR.
The Thoracic Imaging Division alone performs more than 150,000 imaging examinations per year with a good mixture of outpatient and inpatient chest radiography, chest CT, CT-guided thoracic biopsy, chest CTA, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, and chest MRI. UAB has strong pulmonary medicine and cardiothoracic surgery divisions and the fellows will get good exposure to varied aspects of thoracic imaging including but not limited to interstitial lung disease, transplant imaging, advanced cardiovascular surgeries. The Divisions of Cardiology and Radiology jointly conduct the clinical activities of Cardiovascular MRI; more than 700 cardiovascular MRI examinations were performed last year. We also offer coronary artery calcium and lung cancer screening programs.
The fellows may choose to rotate in catheter angiography lab, 3-D lab, nuclear cardiology, or PET-CT during their elective time. The fellow will have ample research and teaching opportunities apart from leading our weekly/monthly interdisciplinary conferences with the divisions of pulmonary medicine and cardiothoracic surgery. Upon completion of the fellowship, the fellow will be well qualified for either an academic or private practice position.

Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology. Three years of training in an ACGME accredited program is required. The applicants should also be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Alabama. Please visit the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners for licensing requirements.

UAB Radiology does not currently accept fellowship applications from individuals requiring J-1 visa sponsorship.
ABR Alternate Pathway
Acceptance into a one-year fellowship program does not constitute acceptance into or a commitment to the American Board of Radiology (ABR) Alternate Pathway.
Consideration for the ABR Alternate Pathway may occur after a fellow has begun fellowship training and is based on individual qualifications, performance, departmental training capacity, institutional requirements, and applicable ABR eligibility criteria.
Participation in the ABR Alternate Pathway is not guaranteed, and the department makes no commitment to additional years of training at the time of the initial fellowship interview or offer.
