Why did you choose UAB Peds?

Growing up in Alabama, I always knew UAB was the place to go for medical care. Once I decided on a career in pediatrics, I wanted to train at a place with high acuity that still felt supportive. My 4th year away rotation proved that UAB is absolutely the place for both! The encouragement, kindness and excellence in clinical care shown by everyone here made UAB an easy choice.

Why did you choose UAB Peds?

I wanted to train at an academic center where I could see and learn everything, but I also wanted to be at a place where the community was strong and I could have best friends for life and world-class mentors. I found all of these things at UAB! From interviews to second looks, I could tell that the people were truly genuine and excited about me as a person and providing ALL kids with the best care possible!

Why did you choose UAB Peds?

My fiance and I couples matched (peds/diagnostic radiology) so our application list became very large very fast, but we were both blown away by our respective interviews with UAB and the more people we met from here and the more we learned about the area and program the more we fell in love with it. We were over the moon when we found out that we matched together at UAB!

Spending time with friends, video games, water activities like scuba diving, kayaking, or just spending time at any lake, beach, river, or creek :)

I chose UAB because it balances clinical excellence with a deeply supportive environment. The program's exceptional depth and wide variety of pediatric pathology ensure that I will be exposed to both complex cases and foundational community health. Beyond the training, what truly solidified my decision was the culture. During my interactions, it became clear that the faculty and residents care for one another at a deeply personal level, creating an ideal, collaborative environment to navigate the demands of residency.

My experience with the UAB Pediatric Residency Program as a medical student was fantastic and made me want to be a part of the program as a resident! UAB Pediatrics offers excellent clinical training and teaching while fostering a supportive and positive culture! I feel so fortunate to be a part of a program that I know will help make me the best pediatrician I can be!

This was the program that made me immediately feel at home! During my away rotation and the interview process, every single person I interacted with at this program was so supportive and friendly. I was also very impressed by the depth and quality of training, especially in giving residents plenty of opportunities to lead and make clinical decisions.

Why did you choose UAB Peds?

Where do I even start? From the moment I interviewed I felt genuinely cared for by everyone that I met. Each person I interacted with was down to earth and invested in getting to know me. The camaraderie amongst the residents stood out to me - they felt like a family! The level of training here is truly exceptional and the faculty and staff pour so much into the residents. My wife and I couple’s matched here - she is in Family Medicine at UAB St. Vincent’s East. We felt led to this program in so many ways and are incredibly excited and thankful to now call Birmingham home!

Playing sports (soccer, pickleball, basketball), keeping up with college/pro sports, running, movies, games, hiking, trying new restaurants, going to church and spending time with friends and family.

Why did you choose UAB Peds?

As a third and fourth year medical student, I got to see firsthand the incredible bonds between the residents and wanted to experience that myself. When choosing a residency I prioritized places that I thought were the best fit for me socially as well as clinically and academically, and UAB seemed to be the perfect balance of those three. Plus Birmingham is such an amazing city with a great mix of nature, incredible restaurants and bars, and proximity to my family (and the beach!). I couldn’t have asked for a better program!
