The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) welcomes International Visiting Scholars (IVS) to participate in approved scholarly, research, and educational activities under the mentorship of UAB faculty.
International Visiting Scholars are non-degree, non-credit visitors who come to UAB for a defined academic training purpose. Participants may include researchers, students or trainees from international institutions, educators, and other scholars invited to collaborate with UAB faculty.
Visiting Scholars may be self-funded, supported by UAB, sponsored by their home institution or government, or funded through a combination of sources.
Participation in the IVS program requires a UAB faculty host. The admission process is initiated by the UAB faculty member or department wishing to invite the scholar; prospective scholars do not independently apply to the program to obtain a host.
Once an invitation is initiated, the International Medical Education Office coordinates the required institutional review, documentation, and approvals for onboarding and offboarding in accordance with UAB policies and applicable immigration and compliance requirements.
