The Department of Medical Education is responsible for educating and nurturing health professionals who serve the health needs of Alabama, the nation, and the world through excellent clinical medicine, research, education, and health care leadership.
The department leads the Heersink School of Medicine’s educational mission, preparing future physicians and scientists for careers in clinical practice, research, teaching, and leadership. Through a commitment to excellence in education, innovation, and mentorship, the department cultivates health professionals who advance the health and well-being of communities across Alabama and around the world.
In support of this mission, the department provides strategic leadership and oversight for the school’s major educational programs and initiatives, including learner recruitment, admissions, undergraduate and graduate medical education, student success, physician-scientist development, global education initiatives, and regional campus programs.
