DOM Celebrates the Season
Faculty and staff from the Division of Preventive Medicine around the tree.The Department of Medicine held its annual Holiday Party at the National Alumni Society House on Tuesday night, with a little light jazz and merriment to start the season off right. Cheers to all who make the DOM merry and bright at the holidays and all year through!
Patient Care Connect Program Earns Innovator Award
Patient Care Connect Program Medical Director Gabrielle Rocque, MDThe Association of Community Cancer Centers recently recognized UAB’s Patient Care Connect Program with its prestigious Innovator Award for its “forward-thinking” approach to improve access and quality of care. Patient Care Connect is a lay navigation program directed by Gabrielle Rocque, MD (Assistant Professor, Hematology and Oncology). The program’s results have been impressive, both in cost savings and patient satisfaction.

L to R: Rehan Sarmad, MD, Daniel LaVie, MD, Will Varnado, MD, and Matt Pierce, MDOne of the senior fellows in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Daniel LaVie, MD, has organized a team known as the “Mustached Marauders of Malignancy.” Together, they are participating in the movement to “change the face of men’s health” by growing a mustache or beard during "Movember." Each team member started clean-shaven and will grow facial hair throughout the month, so visit their site and vote for your favorite "mo." All proceeds go to the Movember Foundation.
