About the Program

The Medical Signal Image Analysis Graduate Certificate offers engineers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals practical, advanced training in modern biomedical data analysis. Designed for both technical and clinical audiences, the program equips learners with the skills needed to process, analyze, and interpret medical imaging and signal data using cutting-edge algorithms and machine learning.

Medical data are gathered and stored daily in all research and non-research medical facilities. The data consists not only of simple numerical and categorical variables related to patients’ demographic, blood tests, or other clinical outcomes, but also include terabytes of imaging and electrophysiological signals. Typically, the data are processed by certified medical professionals, but inter-rater variability, human errors, and staffing issues are raising serious concerns in the medical community. Moreover, the gathered signals and images could have been used for incidental findings if not for the lack of human time. Automated signal and image analysis is gaining a lot of interest as a helping tool for medical professionals to improve prediction, diagnosis, and treatment based on computer algorithms. Engineering companies that develop devices and tools for medical practice are also interested in signal and image processing, but the appropriate skills are not limited to medical data.

Learners pursuing this 15-hour Graduate Certificate in Medical Signal Image Analysis will learn computational science and techniques to understand medical images and signals. Graduates will be prepared for careers in evaluating medical data, developing new technologies, and contributing to medical research, all while understanding the ethical implications of using computers in healthcare.
