Goss Amy NewsAmy Goss, Ph.D., FASN, associate professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Nutrition Sciences, has been named one of the inaugural Excellence in Nutrition Fellows of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN). She was formally recognized at NUTRITION 2025, ASN’s annual flagship meeting, at the beginning of the month.

The Excellence in Nutrition Fellow designation honors individuals who have made significant and sustained contributions to advancing nutrition science. Goss, a leading researcher in obesity, metabolism and diet-based interventions in at-risk youth and adults, was selected from among ASN's global network of scholars.

“I am incredibly honored and deeply grateful," said Goss. "This recognition is not only a profound professional privilege but also a deeply personal testament to my commitment to advancing nutrition science in my career. To be counted among such an outstanding and distinguished class of fellows is truly humbling.”

The ASN Fellow designation is the highest honor the Society bestows as it signifies their significant contributions to advancing nutrition science and practice and their dedication to the highest standards of the profession.

“This achievement would not have been possible without the exceptional mentorship and collaborative spirit of the colleagues and institutions I've had the privilege to work with throughout my journey,” added Goss. “I extend my sincere thanks to all who have supported and guided me, fostering an environment of discovery and shared knowledge.”

Goss leads a multidisciplinary team focused on improving metabolic health through clinical nutrition interventions. Her work, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has had national impact in developing targeted approaches to combat obesity-related diseases in underserved populations.

In addition to the ASN honor, Goss was recently named the 2025 UAB School of Health Professions Excellence in Scholarship Award recipient. The award recognizes faculty who demonstrate a career-long commitment to scholarly excellence, productivity and innovation.
