A useful tool to promote events at UAB is the Campus Calendar. Recently redesigned, the Campus Calendar is an accessible resource that compiles hundreds of events happening across the university in one easy online platform.

The Campus Calendar serves as a hub for students, employees, alumni, and prospective recruits to find out what is happening at UAB. Events featured on the Campus Calendar may be held on campus, hosted virtually, or affiliated with UAB.

Anyone with a BlazerID can submit an event. After an event is submitted, it is reviewed by an administrator before being uploaded to the calendar.

Organization and options

Events can be easily sorted to view highlights, trending events, or all events in a given time period. Filters are also available to help users narrow down results to what is most relevant to them. Special channels curate events around specific topics such as the academic calendar, health & wellness, Homecoming, and more.

The calendar is online for the general public to view, but users who are logged in can use the “My Calendar" feature. If interested in an event, a user can click the “I’m interested” button on the event page, and the event will then be put into the user’s personal calendar. Once marked as “interested,” users receive event updates such as potential location or time changes. Users can visit the account dashboard to set up an email digest of events that they are interested in. They then receive a custom weekly newsletter of events. Building a custom events widget for a website can also be done through the dashboard.

Users have the option of following departments, groups, or places to stay updated on events related to specific interests.

Selecting a target audience and choosing filtering options in the submission form can help reach specific audiences. People can look for events focused on their interests, such as sports, entertainment, educational workshops, professional development and much more, by selecting an event type or topic on the calendar.

This interactive calendar is important for communications and event promotion within UAB, but it also serves as a tool for prospective students, parents, and others outside the UAB community to learn more about events and culture at UAB.
