More than 3,071 students are eligible to graduate this semester, and at least 1,715 students will participate in commencement exercises.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham will host commencement for graduating students in three ceremonies May 2-3, in Bartow Arena.

More than 3,071 students are eligible to graduate this semester, and at least 1,715 students will participate in commencement exercises. Watch the UAB livestream of the ceremonies on Facebook and YouTube. Use the hashtag #UABClassof2025.

The first ceremony, for all graduate students, including master’s, educational specialist and doctoral, will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 2. At least 510 graduating students will participate. This semester, the UAB Graduate School will confer the university’s highest degrees on 61 doctoral students from 17 states and 13 countries, representing five programs.

The second ceremony, for more than 615 students graduating from the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3. Later that day, the third ceremony, for 598 students from the Collat School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Health Professions, School of Nursing and School of Public Health, will be at 2 p.m. Doors will open one hour before each ceremony.

Visit the UAB commencement website for full details about the ceremonies. Students who will walk in the ceremonies are asked to wear flat shoes. There is no limit on the number of guests who can attend the ceremonies, and parking is free. Thirteenth Street South between Sixth Avenue and University Boulevard will be closed to through traffic Friday and Saturday. 

The Alabama Pipes and Drums will lead the procession for all three ceremonies, and the Department of Music’s Faculty Brass Quintet will also perform. Graduating students Veda Joshi, Jalen Kirkman and Christopher Killingsworth will sing the national anthem and the UAB alma mater for the three ceremonies, respectively.

The macebearer for UAB’s spring ceremonies will be Fran Lund, Ph.D. Lund is an internationally renowned scientist, professor and Endowed Chair in Immunology in the UAB Department of Microbiology and director of the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine Immunology Institute. Lund’s contributions as a researcher, collaborator and educator, and her service to UAB, have earned her recognition as the 2024-2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer. This is the highest honor bestowed by UAB’s academic health center on a faculty member who has advanced the frontiers of science and made outstanding contributions to education, research and public service.
