valencia jonesThe Department of Urology is proud to spotlight Valencia Jones, an executive assistant in our department, whose open and welcoming spirit shines through her work.

“I recently started my new position here about a month ago, and Valencia was amazing in getting me set up in my role pretty quickly,” said Jordan Favors, program manager. “She is truly knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and eager to help answer any questions that I may have about the department. She is always helping me with a smile, which makes me feel so welcomed to be a part of this hardworking team.”

Jones shares what she enjoys most about her work and how her early curiosity growing up helped shape who she is today.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Jones: What I enjoy most about being an executive assistant is the opportunity to support leadership in meaningful ways that keep the organization running smoothly. I like being the go-to person who helps solve problems, manage schedules efficiently, and facilitates clear communication. It’s rewarding to contribute behind the scenes and see how my work helps others succeed.

What advice would you give to someone new in your role or department?

Jones: Stay organized, communicate clearly, and be proactive. Building strong relationships and anticipating needs will help you succeed as an executive assistant.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up, and why?

Jones: As a child, whenever my mom asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say, “One of those ladies in a suit.” When she asked doing what, I would reply, “Probably typing on a computer.”

My “why” was simple - I wanted to look nice. My dad worked at a pipe shop and came home dirty, with mud on his shoes. My mom, who was a security officer at the time, often looked tired after long shifts. But in magazines, the professional women were always clean, smiling, and put together. That image stuck with me, and now, here I am one of those women in a suit, working at a computer, just like I imagined.

Pick a color that describes your personality and tell us why.

Jones: I chose yellow because it’s bright and brings a sense of happiness. I’m always smiling and try to bring positive energy to everything I do.

If you had to be an animal, what would you choose?

Jones: I would choose an eagle. Eagles rise above the noise with focus and clarity, and that’s how I strive to move. I want to elevate, grow, and gain new perspectives in every area of who I am.
