The event brought together faculty, family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate years of dedication, rigorous training, and commitment to advancing the field of urologic care. The ceremony recognized the accomplishments of this year’s graduates as they prepare to take the next steps in their professional journeys. Department leadership commended the class for their clinical excellence, resilience, and contributions to patient care throughout their training.
“Our mission is not simply to train excellent surgeons, but to develop compassionate physicians, educators, and leaders,” said Adam Klein, M.D., assistant professor and residency program director in the Department of Urology. “To no one's surprise, this graduating class exceeded that standard in every respect and will have a lasting impact on our residents, medical students, patients, and faculty. We look forward to following their careers and are proud to have them as lifelong ambassadors of UAB Urology.”
In addition to celebrating the graduating class, the department recognized several individuals for excellence in mentorship, research, education, and clinical achievement.
Graduating residents
John Corbin Norton, M.D., will be relocating to Savannah, Georgia, where he will join Urological Associates of Savannah in private practice. He is eager to expand access to advanced procedures in his new community, including Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), and to further develop single-port robotic surgery techniques. Personally, Norton looks forward to reuniting with his wife after spending the past year living and working long-distance.
Zachary Burns, M.D., Pharm.D., will move to Gadsden, Alabama, where he will join Clinical Urology Associates. Professionally, he is committed to delivering high-quality urologic care to patients throughout northeast Alabama. Burns is excited to spend more time with his wife and daughter and to enjoy more opportunities for golf in his free time.
Alexander Nocera, M.D., will remain in the Birmingham area, joining Urology Centers of Alabama in private practice. In his clinical practice, he is excited to apply the knowledge and surgical skills he has developed in residency to provide outstanding, patient-centered care. Nocera looks forward to continuing to explore the city he has come to know during his training.
Graduating fellow
Joseph Crivelli, M.D., MSPH, Hannah Jarvis, M.D., and Kyle Wood, M.D., MBAHannah Jarvis, M.D., was recognized as the first fellow to graduate from the department’s Advanced Endourology and Stone Disease Fellowship Program, marking an important milestone in the continued growth and advancement of subspecialty training within the department. Jarvis will move on to become a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Iowa.
