Jonah Barrett, a medical student working under the guidance of Jordan Perchik, M.D., assistant professor in the abdominal imaging section, recently co-authored a research study published in Academic Radiology titled “Documenting Disclosure: Limited Reporting of Generative AI Usage in Radiology Research Manuscripts.”

The study was a collaboration between Perchik and medical students Barrett and Richard Heng. It investigated how frequently radiology research manuscripts disclose the use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT—something many journals now require.
After analyzing nearly 2,000 radiology publications, the researchers found that only 1.7 percent reported using AI tools, despite surveys indicating more than 50 percent of researchers use them in the writing process. The findings highlight a significant gap that may point to issues with policy awareness, compliance, or stigma associated with disclosing AI use in scientific work.
