Hassan Ghomrawi, Ph.D., MPH, associate professor and vice chair for research and innovation in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been named treasurer of the Orthopedic Research Society's Strategies in Clinical Research section.
The Orthopedic Research Society is the only international research society focused on orthopaedics and musculoskeletal care, boasting 3,200 members worldwide. Officer appointments in the Strategies in Clinical Research section recognize individuals committed to advancing collaboration and innovation in orthopaedic research.
Ghomrawi received a Bachelor of Science in biology and his Master of Public Health in health services administration from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He then received his Doctor of Philosophy in health services research, policy, and administration from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
Ghomrawi is a surgical outcomes researcher and health economist at UAB. In addition to his contributions to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, he is the associate director for the Comprehensive Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, Bone, and Autoimmunity Center.
His research interests include the appropriateness of surgical care, surgical decision-making, cost-effectiveness analysis, social determinants of health, global surgery, and the use of wearable technology. His clinical interests primarily focus on orthopaedics, with additional interests including pediatric general surgery and urology. Ghomrawi has published more than 100 articles in prestigious medical and surgical journals and received countless research grants.
