Justin Coleman (left) and Mohammad Hamo (right)The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery is pleased to welcome Justin Coleman (left) and Mohammad Hamo (right).

Coleman joins the department as a revenue cycle manager after serving eight years as a billing manager. He brings extensive experience in healthcare revenue cycle management.

He specializes in claims, denials, accounts receivable, and coding, and is passionate about improving patient care through efficient billing practices and financial accuracy. Beyond work, Coleman enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and staying active through sports.

Hamo joins the department as a research technician in the lab of James Garber Galbraith Endowed Chair of Neurosurgery James Markert, M.D., MPH. He is currently a fourth-year medical student at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine and is expected to graduate in May 2027. Hamo earned his undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences, with a minor in English, from the University of South Alabama.

His research interests include neurosurgery and neuro-oncology, with previous work focused on oncolytic virotherapy for glioblastoma multiforme, machine-learning approaches to neurosurgical outcomes and radiomics-based analyses of brain tumors. Outside the lab, Hamo is training for a marathon, enjoys playing basketball and spends time fishing in local rivers.
