Monica Pasala, M.D., PGY1, joined the UAB Department of Neurology in June 2024. She was born in Andhra Pradesh, India and grew up in the Birmingham area. Pasala completed both her undergraduate education at the University of South Alabama and medical school at UAB Heersink School of Medicine.

What do you look forward to about training at UAB?

Pasala: I'm excited to learn from the outstanding faculty at UAB who are deeply committed to our education. Having grown up in Birmingham, I'm also looking forward to the opportunity to give back to the community.

Why did you pursue a career in neurology?

Pasala: I am drawn to the complexity, diversity, and intellectual challenge of diagnosing and treating neurological diseases, which allows me to continually grow as both a student and a teacher.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

Pasala: I love to hike! I’ve visited 11 national parks so far and hope to eventually see them all. Acadia is one of my favorites—highly recommend it!
