willet article 1Lisa Willett, M.D., MACMLisa Willett, M.D., MACM, executive vice chair for the UAB Department of Medicine, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award. This award honors educators who have made significant contributions to medical education. Willett will receive the honor at 2025 AAMC Awards Recognition Event on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Previously a chief medical resident at UAB, Willett joined the faculty of the Division of General Internal Medicine in 2000. She also served as program director of the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program, where she was responsible for the training of over 800 residents. In addition to her current role as executive vice chair, Willett also serves as vice chair for Education and Faculty Development, as well as professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Population Science.

“It has been a true privilege to train the next generation of physicians,” said Willett. “I am grateful for my family, supportive colleagues, and all the learners who continue to inspire me. This award is a reflection of all their contributions and support through the years.”

Last year, Willett was awarded the 2024 Ellen Gregg Ingalls/UAB National Alumni Society Award for Lifetime Achievement in Teaching, which recognizes UAB faculty who have shown a strong devotion to teaching. Read more about Willett and her achievements.

The 2025 AOA Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Awards were established in 1988 by the AOA honor society and were named after longtime AOA executive secretary Robert J. Glaser, MD. Read more about the awards.
