Untitled 2025 04 23T141433.654On April 5, students representing the UAB Center for Community Outreach Development (CORD) attended the Alabama State Science and Engineering Fair at Auburn University. These students had been selected to attend following their participation in the UAB-CORD Central Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair (CARSEF), which took place at UAB on March 1.

In total, 57 UAB participants were awarded category awards at the fair, including 12 who received first-place honors. Additionally, 29 special awards were presented to UAB participants from several organizations.

“These outstanding results highlight the talent and dedication of our area students, and the powerful impact of UAB’s investment in hands-on STEM outreach programs and research,” said James Michael Wyss, Ph.D., director of CORD.

Seven students from CARSEF were selected to represent Alabama in May at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Columbus, Ohio. This number totals over half of the 13 representatives Alabama will have at the international fair.

The CORD Center works with schools in the Birmingham community and throughout Central Alabama by offering various programs that allow K-12 students and teachers from all areas to experience science in a hands-on way, both during the school year and in the summer.  Read more about the CORD Center and their program by visiting their webpage.
