The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 2025 Annual Symposium will conclude with a keynote presentation from James Cimino, M.D., distinguished professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science.
Taking place Nov. 15–19 in Atlanta, Georgia, the annual symposium is the world’s premier meeting for the research and practice of biomedical and health informatics, bringing together leaders advancing public health data systems and clinical innovation. The event convenes thousands of informaticians from around the world to share research and insights for leveraging health information and the latest technologies to improve human health. This year’s theme, “Modernizing Informatics Across the Spectrum: Research, Clinical, and Public Health Systems,” emphasizes collaboration as the key to healthcare transformation. A major focus will be the connection between health equity and creating learning health systems that are fair and unbiased, ensuring that technology and data serve all patients equally.
Cimino’s talk, titled “Biomedical Informatics Year in Review,” will spotlight the most significant and exciting scientific developments in biomedical informatics from the past year. Drawing from more than 240 papers nominated by AMIA Working Groups across diverse domains, the presentation will summarize research published between September 2024 and September 2025. The 60-minute, multimedia session will focus primarily on clinical informatics, while also featuring notable work in bioinformatics and clinical research informatics with connections to medicine and public health. The session reflects this year’s focus on using data and technology to improve care while reducing bias and promoting equity across the health system.
Abu Saleh Mohammad Mosa, Ph.D., M.S., FAMIA, vice chair for Clinical Research Informatics and associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, serves on the AMIA 2025 Annual Symposium Scientific Program Committee, helping shape this year’s agenda of presentations and sessions.
This year’s symposium offers attendees a comprehensive experience designed to connect, learn, and grow. The event will draw more than 2,500 participants from around the world and feature a focus on population health, more than 600 presentations, 50 state-of-the-art exhibitions, and industry-leading keynote speakers.
