J. Scott Huffman, executive director of development for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry (SOD) and executive director of the SOD Alumni Association, announced his retirement after 21 years of service to the school. Huffman has been a pivotal figure in alumni relations, known for his unwavering commitment and leadership.
During his tenure, Huffman played a crucial role in fostering relationships between the School of Dentistry and its alumni, significantly enhancing the association's outreach and engagement efforts. His contributions have been instrumental in the establishment of numerous scholarships and endowments, as well as countless clinic renovation projects.
"Scott Huffman has an innate ability to make everyone feel that they are his best friend, and rightly so – as he has been a best friend for the School of Dentistry’s Alumni Association," said Dr. Stanley Beard, former association president and current Leadership Council member.
Dean Nico Geurs praised Huffman's service, stating, "Scott's dedication and leadership have been invaluable to the UAB School of Dentistry Alumni Association. His efforts have significantly strengthened our community and created lasting impacts that will benefit future generations of dental professionals."
In his retirement message, Huffman expressed heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for welcoming him and his wife, Susan, into their dental family, emphasizing the lasting relationships they've built. He pledged to continue supporting the dental community through volunteering and donations. He also thanked his colleagues for their professionalism and dedication to maintaining high standards in dental education and acknowledged his staff for their commitment to excellence.
Huffman's legacy has been honored through the Scott and Susan Huffman Endowed Scholarship Fund, established by the UAB School of Dentistry Alumni Association.
