Assistance with specialized requests

While the Self service tools are valuable, we understand that they do not meet all needs. There are two primary reasons that may prevent the use of the available self service functions. 1) PHI is required, whether contact information for recruitment, or full narrative text 2) A custom data structure is required.

  • Advanced Collaboration

    Variable and Values Concept Bundles

    Study teams and EDW Developers can collaborate on sets of concepts to be used in datasets, including subsets of diagnosis, medications, and lab values. These can be used in combination for determination of cohorts and dataset content.

  • Build a UAB Cohort with i2b2

    Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside

    i2b2 is a self-service 'cohort discovery tool' available to all personnel. It allows you to explore and query clinical data that has been deidentified and aggregated. i2b2 allows you to count patients with specific characteristics and services, as well as to save cohorts.

    The Scientific Gateway process allows detailed discussion of scientific questions, determination of whether documentation in clinical practice is fit for the scientific purpose/question, and refinement of approaches to effective use of EHR Datasets.

  • UAB De-Identified Datasets

    Dataset Builder in DataLENS

    The DataLENS Application includes a Standard Dataset Builder, which allows the creation of detailed clinical datasets in De-Identified (HIPAA Limited Dataset) form. The cohorts, and datasets are controlled and track such that they fall within IRB Exempts.

  • UAB Tissue Biorepository

    (UAB-TBR)

    Formerly known as the UAB Tissue Collection and Banking Facility, is to collect, process, store, and distribute high quality human tissue specimens to investigators of UAB, members of the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and others to conduct investigations that advance molecular medicine to individualize treatment and improve clinical care.
