Certificate in Social & Behavioral Statistics
The range of statistical methods that are used in the behavioral sciences is extraordinarily broad. Most graduate programs in the social and behavioral sciences focus their training on core content and research methods, with only basic coverage of the most widely used statistical methods. This certificate program provides students with structured, extensive training in statistical methods to enhance their future research careers.
This Graduate Certificate in Social & Behavioral Statistics includes training in:
- Data analysis workflow
- Multivariate statistical methods
- Longitudinal data analysis
- Structural equation modeling
- Categorical data analysis
The Graduate Certificate in Social & Behavioral Statistics is available to students currently enrolled in a graduate program at UAB who have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
These 15 hours of supplemental coursework provide valuable training for doctoral students to further develop their skills in statistical methods to prepare them for research and applied careers.

Psychology Graduate Program
The mission of the psychology graduate program is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and intellectual habits required for successful careers in research, teaching, and professional service. We offer a Master of Science (MS) degree in Behavioral Neuroscience, as well as doctoral programs in:
- Behavioral Neuroscience: prepares students for independent research and teaching in the neurobiology of behavior.
- Applied Developmental Psychology: trains scientists to conduct research to discover and apply basic principles of human developmental psychology in an interdisciplinary context and to apply those principles to a variety of problems in areas such as child and adolescent development and aging.
- Medical/Clinical Psychology (jointly sponsored by the UAB Heersink School of Medicine): prepares students to become leaders in research and clinical care in the areas of behavioral, mental, and physical health promotion, disease prevention, risk reduction, and symptom assessment and amelioration in interdisciplinary and medical settings.
Admission to the Psychology graduate program is highly selective. All of our graduate students study core substantive areas of psychological science as well as more specific areas in their specialization. Under the supervision of qualified faculty, and as appropriate for their specialization and career goals, our graduate students also:
- conduct research,
- publish in highly respected journals,
- seek and receive extramural grant funding,
- participate in national and international conferences,
- actively participate in scientific and professional organizations,
- teach, and
- provide professional service
