The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees named Robert Collins, Ph.D., associate professor emeritus in the Department of English during its meeting June 15, 2012. Collins began his career at UAB in 1980, served as the first director of the Program in Creative Writing and founded the Birmingham Poetry Review.
