Scholarships for Transfer Students

The Cost of Attendance (COA) is the estimated amount that a student may incur while attending UAB during the nine-month academic year. The COA includes direct costs and indirect costs and is sometimes referred to as a student's "budget.” It is used to determine eligibility for federal funding and aids in budget planning for the academic year.

The Cost of Attendance (COA) tables below reflect tuition and fees for a dependent undergraduate student based on 2026-2027 rates for two semesters (fall and spring) with a course load of 15 credit hours each semester.

The components of the COA include an estimate of standard Tuition and Fees; Books, Course Materials, Equipment, and Supplies; Personal Expenses; Transportation; and Food and Housing. This does not take into consideration all individual circumstances or discretionary expenses. An estimated amount pertaining to loan origination fees and required health insurance may also be included in the COA budget.

The direct costs items are those that are billed directly to the student account. Students are not billed for indirect costs; however, these amounts are estimates of expenses that a student may have while in school and are included when calculating eligibility for financial assistance.

A cost of attendance budget is assigned to every student receiving federal aid based on the program of study. Students are able to view their budgeted COA on the My Financial Aid page in BlazerNet once the financial aid offer is posted.

Actual tuition and fees are based on specific courses and the number of registered hours each semester. Additional costs may include athletic fee, lab fees, and online course fees. Charges specific to a student’s registration can be viewed on their Account Summary in BlazerNet approximately 4 weeks before classes begin each semester.

After checking-out UAB’s resources, here are a few external opportunities that we encourage you to explore.

• Check with your parents’ employer(s), or even your potential employer(s), to see if they offer scholarships.
• Contact professional or government organizations that are affiliated with your major or desired career field to see if they offer scholarships (i.e. Nurse Corps, National Science Foundation, National Education Association).
• Check with local civic organizations or churches to see if they have scholarships for which you may apply (Kiwanis, The Rotary Club, etc.).
• Check additional outside resources by using free scholarship search engines, such as www.fastweb.com and www.scholarships.com.

If you are receiving a scholarship from a company or organization outside of UAB, we ask that you please request your scholarship provider to make the check payable to UAB and indicate your name and student number (B0XXXXXXX) on the memo line of the check and/or in the accompanying letter. The donor should also list the academic terms for which the scholarship is intended (i.e. 2020-2021 academic year, fall 2020 only, or spring 2021 only). UAB awards merit scholarships for a wide range of academic achievements. Current high school seniors who apply to UAB with test scores or as test-optional will be considered for merit scholarships. Students must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees/asylees, or otherwise able to demonstrate lawful presence in the US for scholarship consideration.

Scholarship Deadline: Apply for Admission by January 15

ADMITTED WITH A TEST SCORE

Current high school seniors admitted with test scores are automatically considered for ACT- and GPA-based merit scholarships. UAB does not consider superscores for admission or scholarship purposes. December ACT or SAT scores taken in their senior year will be the final scores considered for automatic merit scholarship review.

ADMITTED AS TEST-OPTIONAL

Current high school seniors admitted without test scores are considered for scholarships based on information provided in the admission application and supporting documentation. Students must have a 3.5 minimum GPA to be eligible for scholarship consideration.

While the university cannot advise applicants on whether or not to apply with test scores, students can compare their test scores to these Fall 2025 averages of incoming freshmen: 27 ACT and 3.8 GPA. Applicants with scores at or above the averages typically have more scholarship opportunities when applying with a test score. Review UAB’s test-optional policy for more information.

ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS

INVITATION-ONLY OPPORTUNITY

Students who apply for admission with test scores of 33–36 ACT or 1450–1600 SAT and a high school GPA of at least 3.5, as well as qualifying test-optional applicants, will be invited to compete for the Regions, Ireland, or McCallum Presidential endowed scholarships by answering a series of questions on the BSMART General Scholarship Application in BSMART, the Blazer Scholarship Management and Resource Tool. NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

UAB is a destination for academically talented students, and we are proud to recognize and award multiple national and international scholars. • National Merit Finalist - $4,000 per year
• National Recognition Program Scholar - $2,500 per year*
• IB or Cambridge AICE Diploma Holder - $2,500 per year*
• IB or Cambridge AICE Diploma Candidate - $1,000 per year*

UAB BIRMINGHAM PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP

The UAB Birmingham Promise Scholarship is an opportunity available to students who graduate from a Birmingham City School. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be admitted to UAB as first-time, full-time freshmen by May 1 and also complete the required application from Birmingham Promise, Inc., by published deadlines. In addition, students must complete and submit the FAFSA by May 1 to determine eligibility for federal grants (Pell and SEOG). Once a student is awarded UAB merit scholarships and/or federal grants for which they qualify, the UAB Birmingham Promise Scholarship may be awarded to cover the remaining required tuition and fees only for up to 15 credit hours per semester. Housing and meal plan costs are not covered by this scholarship. This scholarship may be awarded for up to four years (eight semesters) provided the student meets academic and application renewal requirements by posted deadlines each year. This scholarship does not cover summer semesters. ADDITIONAL UAB SCHOLARSHIPS

UAB is pleased to offer Cambridge AICE/IB Scholarships, departmental, performance, and more scholarship opportunities to admitted and current students. Students interested in these scholarships should complete the BSMART General Scholarship Application and any other scholarship applications required by your specific department in the Blazer Scholarship Management and Resource Tool (BSMART). Completing the application submits student information to multiple departments and units on campus for scholarship consideration. Students can complete the BSMART Scholarship Application beginning August 1. The BSMART Application submission deadline is April 1.
